Pharming is the technique used by unsavoury individuals or companies to get the confidential data with out your knowledge. It is simplar to pishing except you need not click on an email. Pharmers operate in two main ways either directly on users or on the domains. Pharmers send the email to the users and ask them to update the account information. The difference from pishing is that the email contains a virus which installs on the users computer. When user enters the website address it will direct to the pharmers fake website and collects all data like logon id, password, etc., Pharmers second method is that they make use of the fact that the website name is alpha numeric but the they reside on the numeric address on Internet. Thus when the user enters the web site name into the browser the pharmers interfere and change the real name of the site to the fake name of the site within the DNS server.

How to avoid pharming?
The virus based pharming can be avoided by using upto date antivirus, antispyware and firewall on your computer.Also look for the lock or ket icon at the bottom of the browser to check whether the website is genuine.
