Software Counterfeiting
After installing the Windows XP sometimes you will be prompted to an error 'you may be a victim of software counterfeiting'. Even after visiting the www.microsoft.com/genuine site and installing "WGAPluginInstall.exe' file, you will be facing the same issue. There is a solution for this problem, just follow the below steps:

  • Go to 'C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files' and remove any files and folders with .wga
  • Reboot your computer and as soon as you log off tap F8 and get into the Safe Mode, within safe mode go to the folders 'C:\Windows\Sysyem32', 'C:Windows\Sysyem32\dllcache', here rename the file wgatray.exe to wgatrayold.exe.
  • Click on Start, Run type regid and click OK. Within the registry file navigate to HKET_Local_Machine\Software\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\WinLogon\Notify\WGALOGON, richt click on the folder and export the folder then delete it.
  • Close all applications and restart your machine in the normal mode.
  • Go to the site www.microsoft.com/genuine and manually re-validate the windows.
  • After successful validation restart the machine.
