Samsung's Bada is a smartphone platform (operating system) which is devised for a wide range of platforms. Bada is a Korean word which stands for Ocean. It has a vision of 'smart phone for everyone', to help grow Bada samsung is planing to make it an opensource by 2012.
Bada has been unvieled in 2010. First Bada based smart phone was Samsung Wave S8500, it was released in June 2010 and 1 million handsets were sold in first four weeks after its release. In May 2010 Samsung has released a Beta of the Bada called Software Development Kit to attract developers, later it released version 1.0.1 with minor enhancements for its european users. In Aug 2011 Samsung released version 2.0 of bada which has many additional featured than its predecessors.
Samsung Opened an International Samsung App Store for Bada platform.
Most of the native applications of Bada are developed in C++ with SDK and eclipse based IDE (integrated development environment).
One of the criticisms of Bada was All VOIP wifi based applications were banned on Bada which makes users cant use applications like Skype. But since 2011 that restriction was removed and VOIP application are allowed.
