Your user agent tells every site you are visiting about what browser you are using. Not all sites have the UA detection in place. If you are visiting the site via mobile and if the site has the User Agent detection in place then you will be directed to the mobile content of that site so that site content fits according to your screen.
UAs tells the site you are visiting some software related information for example if you are using IE 8 , windows vista and Media Center PC 5.0 installed then the site will redirected to the sub section which is strictly to Vista. Screen resolution is just a gee whiz info. This is the size of your desktop and not the browser size.
