American Express is to launch a Facebook application that offers personalized coupons based on the user's likes and interests. This marks a significant daily deals market entry for the amex. For those who are familiar with Groupon and Livingsocial - a key advantage is that there is no need to spend money to get a deal. Instead users can add the deals they like to their American Express accounts.
For example if the card holder clicks on a deal to get 5$ back for spending 20$ at Whole Foods, they automatically get 5$ credited to their account when they shop 20$ at the market. Card holders can also earn the reward points for their net spent amount $15.
This American Express on Facebook also offers key perks to merchants too.
